ECU & ECM firmware analysis
Binary inspection, memory maps, code/data segmentation, firmware comparisons, PowerPC disassembly, decompilation, cross-references and control-logic investigation.
ECUClone is the independent engineering practice of Sergei Zykov, focused on automotive embedded software, ECU/ECM firmware analysis, electronic control systems and vehicle communication protocols.
My work bridges practical automotive engineering and low-level software analysis. I approach electronic control units as complete systems: hardware interfaces, memory organization, executable firmware, calibration data, network communication and diagnostic behavior.
With a foundation in automotive mechanics and extensive independent technical development, I specialize in understanding how control systems operate internally, tracing behavior from vehicle-level symptoms to software functions, memory structures and protocol exchanges.
Based in Vilnius, Lithuania, I provide independent technical analysis and engineering consulting for automotive and off-highway electronic systems.
Focused technical work for complex electronic control systems, with particular emphasis on firmware-level investigation and reproducible diagnostics.
Binary inspection, memory maps, code/data segmentation, firmware comparisons, PowerPC disassembly, decompilation, cross-references and control-logic investigation.
Analysis of software architecture, diagnostic handlers, state machines, configuration data, calibration structures and controller interactions.
CAN traffic analysis, SAE J1939, J1708/J1587, ISO 14229 UDS, diagnostic sessions, service responses and proprietary network messages.
Investigation of diagnostic communication, module behavior, network supervision, interoperability issues and electronic system integration.
Analysis of firmware containers, S-record and binary formats, memory offsets, calibration tables, checksums and software-version differences.
Independent engineering assessments, protocol documentation, reproducible test procedures, troubleshooting and specialist software research.
Technical work and research include Volvo heavy-duty and construction-equipment electronic systems, TRW automotive control units, PowerPC-based embedded controllers and networked vehicle modules.
Manufacturer and technology names identify systems and technical domains. ECUClone is an independent practice and is not presented as an authorized representative, partner or affiliate of these brands.
Each investigation begins with an observable technical problem and proceeds through structured evidence: protocol captures, firmware images, memory analysis, functional comparisons and controlled tests.
The goal is not simply to identify a symptom, but to understand the mechanism behind it and document findings in a form that can be reviewed, reproduced and applied to engineering decisions.
I actively integrate artificial intelligence into my engineering workflow to accelerate firmware research, source-code exploration, protocol-log analysis, technical documentation and development of diagnostic utilities. AI-assisted methods support hypothesis generation, pattern discovery and automation; conclusions are validated against binary evidence, protocol specifications and controlled tests. Engineering judgement and verification remain central to every deliverable.
